Are You Playing to Win?
Or Playing Not to Lose?

Playing to Win – Together
Playing to win is one thing, doing it together is another. Have you ever tried to paddle against the current? It's hard! What happens when others join in and offer their support, help, and encouragement? Here are my thoughts.

Hi, everybody, it's Denise again. In one of my recent trainings, I asked one of the participants to talk about a time before age 16, when they felt accomplished, and to share it with the group. Well, AJ told us a story about when he was in middle school and how they won the championship game.

Now, quickly into this conversation, I realized that AJ was focusing on what "we" accomplished versus what "he" accomplished. So it was wonderful as he unfolded the story. He was on a football team. And there was a particular player who was struggling, and he was to run laps. And what AJ noticed is that someone went and ran with him, to encourage him, to support him, to keep him going. And one by one, other players started to join in and encourage him and before you know it, the whole football team was running. That's how tight they were working together. That person felt very supported. And that's what also, he believes led to them winning that championship game three years in a row.

Now, what that story represents, as far as I'm concerned, is when people are playing to win together - because in business, I see people struggle on their own, everybody might have a group goal, but everybody's trying to do their own version of it. And that would be like paddling your own canoe, versus when we play together to win we're all rowing our boat together. And that's the difference.

That's why I want you to think about in your own business, or where you work, what would that look like if we all came together and rowed together rather than try to figure it out on our own? Because I think that's transformational. What do you think?

We'll talk more about this in future videos.
