Trapped In Your Head
Have you ever had an idea that you think could make a difference and wondered “How could I make money doing this?”
In Part 1 of this series, we talked about getting the idea out of your head and taking action to monetize an idea.
The 5 Stages
In Part 2, I said you will doubt yourself when you aren’t seeing the results you want and introduced you to the Emotional Cycle of Change which has these 5 Predictable Stages. We go through them to get to what we want.
- Stage 1- Uninformed Optimism
- Stage 2- Informed Pessimism
- Stage 3- Valley of Despair
- Stage 4- Informed Optimism
- Stage 5- Success and Fulfillment
Stuck In The Valley
Unfortunately, 99% of us will repeat Stages 1, 2, and 3 over and over again until we give up. This is really interesting because many who quit in the Valley of Despair actually end up going back to Stage 1 - Uninformed Optimism - and starting over, telling themselves things like; “I just picked the wrong market; if I shifted direction, I could make it work.”
Rinse and Repeat
Now, here is the really sad part - most of us get stuck in a cycle between these 3 stages and like a kid on a slide, end up in the dirt and try it again and again and again-1,2,3 - 1,2,3 - 1,2,3…
Playing to Win Together
Today, let’s talk about the way to get you to Stage 4 - Informed Optimism, and then onto Stage 5 - Success & Fulfillment.
Left to our own devices, 99% of us will veer off course and start something new once we enter the Valley of Despair (been there done that). That’s when I discovered the way to keep on keeping on is to be in a Supportive Applied Learning Environment
Let's Roll!
An environment that has you make commitments to take action when you are in your head swirling with ideas-(Stage 1 Uninformed Optimism) and gets you out of Paralysis of Analysis.
Commit
An environment that has you be accountable and share the results of those actions even when it gets hard (Stage 2 Informed Pessimism), and commit to keep moving, even as you want to veer off course.
Every Step Moves You Forward
An environment where you keep putting 1 foot in front of the other and stay the course even when it feels like you’ve been blown off course (Stage 3 Valley of Despair). This is where it’s predictable that you will want to quit and start something else, and your brilliant idea will never come to fruition, and this is why so many never make it to Stages 4 & 5.
They Have Your Back
That is why, each week, you commit to taking action and then debrief those actions. At each stage, we have you look at what you are learning: the brilliant, the good, the bad, and the ugly. You obtain feedback, suggestions, and encouragement from the others in your Supportive Applied Learning Environment, because they can always see what you can’t. And when you APPLY those learnings, you start to get traction.
Progress!
Now you can start to see that you are learning how to monetize an idea, it might look like what you thought it should, and it often doesn’t happen as quickly as you would like. That being said, you are making progress, turning the corner, and heading toward Stage 4-Informed Optimism!
