The Power of Working Together

Working together to fulfill a goal, intention, or aspiration, there is nothing like it. Right?

The reason I ask is: in one of our Playing To Win Teams, we asked the participants to recall a time in their life, before age 16, when they were proud of something they accomplished. One of our attendees, AJ, talked about winning the championship game in Middle School.

As he retold the story it was clear the focus went from what “he” accomplished to what “they” accomplished.

AJ said they worked so well together that if one of his teammates had to run laps because he wasn’t measuring up, someone would run along with him to support & cheer them on. But surprisingly what happened was, one by one more joined in for support & reassurance and before you knew it the entire team was out there running laps! That commitment to each other and continuous improvement led to winning the Championship 3 years in a row!!!

This is what it's like when we align around a goal or vision and “we” work together.

So often I see people working independently trying to reach a goal working hard, and pushing hard but not achieving it.

I see this all the time in business where there are the star employees making all their metrics and the “others” who are not, (like the guy who had to run laps). How do the “others” feel - inadequate, less than, insignificant? How do we support, reassure, and elevate them as AJ’s team did? When that support is missing, the company doesn’t get the lift it could.
